Son of a Gun!

So after a few days of settling in and having some wee wonders around town we completed our mandatory two-day safety training. Despite being told a lot of ways you can die it was so much fun. On the first day we mostly focused on first aid training and communication, it was definitely an ice breaker to say the least. from conducting CPR on Little Anne, body examinations for injury and getting all cosy in our tents. As Hope said the day was 'very hands on' (Stevenson et al. 2017).

The second day was definitely everyone's favourite, starting with an early morning trip to the shooting range. While Fred and Vicky were ecstatic to get started, Sally and Hope were a bit too cold to be that excited. The rifle recoil and loud noise was a lot to deal with at the start but it ended up being a lot fun. Fred even managed a bullseye, somehow (#pureskill). By the end of the morning we'd all passed and can now all carry a rifle, which we're hoping we'll never have to use. Fingers crossed.

Then that afternoon we went for our first little swim in the Arctic ocean (Adventfjord) in our survival suits. We got a bumpy ride to the harbour in a bandvagn 206, which is an ATV, and basically has no suspension. Ouch! At the harbour we were forced to walk into the water until we were neutrally buoyant and then drifted around the harbour, which was a lot of fun, even when the hands got cold and wet. We all agreed lying that in the water was more comfortable than our beds in the Brakke. Next we had to jump into the water from the pontoon and connect to each other forming a chain. This chain then had to paddle to the shore and all got out of the water alive, even if we went to the shore feet first.
